Third year pupils receive shirts at Accrington Stanley gift
Hundreds of elementary school students received free Accrington Stanley shirts and gift bags as part of this year’s Big Shirt Giveaway.
The annual event saw the year three children from 39 schools in the borough receive a shirt and bag of goodies, sponsored by North Lancs Training Group and Accrington and Rossendale College, including a flag, water bottle, a lunch box, fresh fruit, a photo of the first team.
Taking place for the sixth consecutive year, the youngsters had the chance to meet the players and see the pitch up close, having their photo taken in the Studio.co.uk Eric Whalley family stand.
With the support of Hyndburn Schools, this program has now distributed just over 7,200 shirts and gift bags; it is designed to encourage young people in the borough to take an interest in sport, get involved in sport and feel connected to their local professional League One team.
The shirts were sponsored by Studio and Accrington Stanley Community Trust.
Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman said: “As a club we believe this is one of the most important days of the year.
“It’s a chance to be part of the Hyndburn community, schools, children and parents.
“We’ve been doing this for six years, with every third-year student receiving a shirt, which in the period of financial austerity we’re going through at the moment, it’s a good gesture from the club and it creates links with the local community, and I hope we see those kids again at Wham Stadium.”
Hyndburn Mayor Cllr Abdul Khan said: “This is a great initiative from Accrington Stanley and thank you to the club for supporting their community.
“I’m sure the kids are really grateful for the shirts and the trip to the stadium, and well done to everyone involved in putting it together.”
The Club thanked the sponsors and those who provided donations for their support, as well as those who helped organize the event.
