Plainfield Fire Department warns of t-shirt sales scam

PLAINFIELD, IL — If Plainfield residents receive a text message from the fire department about t-shirts for sale, it’s not actually from the Plainfield Fire Protection District, officials said Monday.

Authorities are warning residents of an ongoing scam in Illinois that revolves around firefighter t-shirts. Currently, Plainfield First Responders do not sell shirts, and if they did, “we would NOT text you to sell them,” they wrote in a Facebook post.

“This hasn’t happened to any Plainfield residents yet, but we want to be proactive and let you know in advance,” officials said.
