Let Them In: Leisure Day Comes After Harry Admits His Song Watermelon Sugar Is Part Of ‘Female Orgasm’
The star made the cheeky confirmation during a concert in Nashville last week – as part of her Love On Tour shows.
The hitmaker stopped by telling fans “this song is about⦠whatever it is” before cheekily saying that the 2019 song is about “the sweetness of life.”
The musician, who had previously immersed himself in his sex life on Fine Line, then gave a more steamy explanation to the song, much to the delight of his fans.
âIt’s also about the female orgasm, but it’s totally different⦠It’s not really relevant,â he said.
Watermelon Sugar was co-written by Styles, Mitch Rowland, Tyler Johnson and Kid Harpoon, the latter two being its producers.
The track itself is said to have been inspired by the musician’s former girlfriend, Camille Rowe.
The model, who dated the singer from 2017 to 2018, previously expressed that she was a fan of Richard Brautigan’s post-apocalyptic novel In Watermelon Sugar during an interview with She.
Staying vague: The singer began his rendition of the song by expressing that he didn’t place much value on the meaning of the track
Raunchy: He then noted that Watermelon Sugar was âalso about female orgasm, but it’s totally differentâ; he is seen in march of last year
Background: The track was included on Styles’ Fine Line album and its title is said to have been inspired by Richard Brautigan’s book In Watermelon Sugar.
The song was made available to the public directly after the performer hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live in November 2019.
Watermelon Sugar was well received by music critics after its release, and it peaked at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Styles won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance for his work on the track.
His music video was also made available to the public last May, and the musician received widespread praise for his conduct on the project set.
Earlier this year, co-composer Kid Harpoon spoke to Music week and spoke about the singer’s impressive sense of lyricism.

He noted: âAt first, and I understand a lot from his words, I thought, ‘This is a little weird. âThen you’re like, ‘Dude, this is awesome.’ I remember thinking that with that. Harry is so good at lyrics, he’s really becoming his own thing. ‘
The musician then expressed that the main line of the song was a bit vague for other songwriters, although they were happy with the end result.
âWe had this Watermelon Sugar High line and it was like, ‘What is it? What does it mean?’ It was funny, everything is put in a poetic way, âhe said.
Praise: The track’s co-producer, Kid Harpoon, said Styles was “so good at lyrics he’s really becoming his own thing”; the singer is seen last month
The producer, born Thomas Edward Percy Hull, also noticed that the line resonated with many listeners because of its whimsical yet authentic quality.
âOne of the reasons this song is so connected is because of the lyrics, I think it’s just funny, but it doesn’t sound silly, in a weird way,â he said.
Kid Harpoon briefly touched on the sexual interpretation of the track by many fans and recalled that the songwriters just enjoyed the main line without giving it much thought.
âI don’t mean to be too graphic, but we were saying it could be about this or that⦠We just thought it was funny,â he said.
Face Value: The producer also said the title Watermelon Sugar didn’t carry much weight with its songwriters, who “just thought it was funny”; Styles is seen in 2020
