The festival starts on Saturday 14th May with a special family racing day at Newmarket Racecourse. In addition to the races, there will be Suffolk Punches and two planes, a Spitfire and a Hurricane, flying for the day.

A 540-mile torch relay begins May 13 and passes through 250 cities and towns, with community champions named to carry the torch on its journey.

The Festival of the Sea will incorporate the Lowestoft Sea Festival, the Royal Navy, the fishing industry, boat building companies, the RNLI and celebrate their impact on the economy and communities. A flotilla of over 100 ships will leave Harwich North in June.

There will also be a trade show, the Let’s Rock concert in Trinity Park in September and youth and community games in Bury St Edmunds in July.

The Queen’s Green Canopy will see over 750,000 trees planted – one for every Suffolk resident – throughout the year.

And a special book collecting articles on Suffolk from 90 national and international authors, called A Garland for Suffolk, is due for publication on May 5.

Meanwhile, there are many other established events which will include a Festival of Suffolk theme – including the Suffolk Show – and organized community events.

Suffolk Day, which will be held on June 21, will of course also be themed around the festival.
