The days of All Elite Wrestling the shows emanating from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville to no fans are well and truly behind us.

However, that hasn’t stopped fans from returning to “Covid-era” episodes of the show to re-watch iconic moments.

From the fight in the parking lot between Best Friends and Santa and Ortiz, to the early days of FTR, there’s a lot to look back on.

One of the funniest moments on the show didn’t involve a regular AEW roster member, however, it did involve a legendary boxing figure.

mike tyson had been brought to AEW to appear at “Double or Nothing”, where he introduced the first TNT champion Cody Rhodes with the new belt.

A few nights later, ‘Iron Mike’ appeared on Dynamite to reignite his rivalry with Chris Jericho.

Almost two years later, the footage of the baddest man on the planet struggling to defeat his AEW cotton t-shirt is just as hilarious as the first time around.

Tyson – who was flanked by alumni cfu stars Vitor Belfort and Henry Cejudo – clearly wanted to show his fantastic physique to “The Champion”.

However, his plans to rip off his shirt to reveal his shredded body did not go as planned.

Many fans believed that this interaction would lead to a catch match between the two, but that never happened.

Instead, Tyson returned to the boxing ring to confront Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition match in November 2020.

The video of the altercation on AEW’s YouTube channel has garnered over eight million views, making it one of their highest-performing videos.

Since returning to the road, AEW has taken off and continues to draw large crowds.

DIRECT APPROACH: Sir Anthony Hopkins’ latest role – modeling for Loewe’s new campaign – required him to don a T-shirt printed with colorful glazed donuts, tailored trousers and the Spanish brand’s vaguely retro Flow trainers. He looks cool as he smiles and points a thumbs up at his Anagram studded tote bag.

Loewe’s creative director, Jonathan Anderson, continues to amaze with his sometimes surreal designs – a sandal with a stalked rose as a heel, for example – and his daring casting.

The pre-fall spots also feature “The Lost Daughter” actress Jessie Buckley, her face branded with instructions for retouching, plucking and snipping; model Kaia Gerber doused in a bubble bath while keeping her Amazona square bag hoisted and dry, and artist Lynda Benglis, 80, wore parrot-print leggings and a fringed parka in her studio.

“It’s about finding people who represent the brand, as well as people I look up to and want to connect with,” Anderson explained, calling Benglis a “genius” and “one of the greatest American artists of all time”.

The designer said he was “honoured” to include Hopkins, whose upcoming projects include “Zero Contact” and “Armageddon Time.”

“I find him totally fascinating. He’s a true acting legend, of course, but he was so kind to us on set,” Anderson said.

Juergen Teller also turned his lens to Chinese actress Tang Wei, Japanese Paralympic athlete Maya Nakanishi and singer-songwriters Alewya and Caroline Polachek. Ambassadors Loewe HyunA, a South Korean singer, and actor Josh O’Connor round out the campaign, which was shot mostly outdoors and appeared spontaneous and unvarnished. Loewe called it “a brutal document of an extended creative community”.

Buckley said shooting the spots with Teller and Anderson was pure fun.

“I brought in a bit of a rogue idea and they all went for it. We laughed so much. The crazier, the better,” she enthuses. “I painted myself as a clown and stood in a bush. Nothing normal about filming. …Juergen was ready to get weird and wild.

The campaign – aimed at print and digital placements – kicks off from Tuesday, then rolls out to outdoor displays.

Black Caps spinner Ajaz Patel is raising money for Starship Children’s Hospital by donating one of the jerseys he wore during last year’s Mumbai Test, where he became just the third pitcher of the test to take 10 wickets in one inning.

The cause is one close to Patel’s heart after spending a few days in hospital last year when his daughter, Hania, was born.

“My daughter was born at Starship and she had a bit of a fever and they took her in for checkups and to make sure she was okay,” he explained.

“They gave her a short dose of antibiotics but during that time…she was in the neonatal intensive care unit, she didn’t really have too many problems but I remember I was sitting there with her and I remember looking around the room and there were so many vulnerable babies.

“The care and love they were getting from the nurses – I remember thinking as a first time parent, how amazing it was but how difficult it would have been for those parents.”

The money raised from the auctioned shirt will help pay for the hospital’s radiology department play specialist, who helps children cope with procedures such as MRIs without the need for general anesthesia.

“It’s something quite unique. In an adult hospital you won’t have a play specialist to teach adults how to play, in a children’s hospital it can be quite vital in calming them down and making it easier for them. Patel said.

“Being a cricketer and sport and gambling being everything, I think they saw that as a good fit and it fills a need for them as well.”

Patel said the decision was inspired by Tim Southee, who donated his Test Championship shirt to raise money for Hollie Beattie, an eight-year-old girl who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

“The first time I really thought about it was when Tim, after the World Test Championship, donated his shirt for the Hope for Holly campaign. I saw how much New Zealanders supported and for me, if I donated out of my own pocket, I wouldn’t be able to give that much,” he said.

“If it’s something like that that people can support and we can raise a lot of money and help people, it makes it a lot easier.

“Tim was probably the catalyst in my mind, I just needed a shirt that could generate that kind of attention,” he joked.

Starship Foundation CEO Aisha Daji Punga said funds raised through the shirt will have a positive impact on children and their families.

“Play specialists make tough times more bearable for children and their whanau,” she said.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday, the shirt fetched a bid of $5,100. The auction ends on Wednesday, May 11.
