Camila Cabello’s Cropped Polo Shirt is the flirty version of your dad’s old top
Fans might have assumed Camila Cabello is a fashion enthusiast given her many red carpet appearances (in pre-pandemic times) and her Hollywood star status. However, you’ll be surprised to learn that the Cuban-American singer didn’t care at all about the way she dressed – at least, not until recently. On May 12, Cabello shared on her Instagram that she never thought about her style until she discovered vintage shops and vintage clothing. As if at the right time, Cabello stepped out in a cropped polo shirt and beige overalls on the same day she posted on her Insta.
While the star hasn’t said if her shirt is actually vintage, she’s appealed to all the nostalgia for the style from the start. Preppy polo shirts were once tucked into denim miniskirts by teens around the world and worn by your pops – chances are his polo shirt was from Ralph Lauren or Lacoste. The look, however, has faded from mainstream fashion over time, but like all Y2K clothing and accessory trends, it’s now making a comeback. Cabello’s green and blue shirt, in particular, featured patterns and stripes of ocean life. She kept her outfit casual with white platform sneakers and a quilted Chanel backpack.
Cabello’s exact shirt isn’t available in stores, but you won’t have to look far to recreate his outfit. Adidas offers a sporty cropped polo shirt for just $ 40 while Prada offers a mesh one for $ 1,200 if you want something more luxurious. If you prefer a colorful option, Cynthia Rowley sells a blue ribbed version. Meanwhile, on Depop, a peer-to-peer social shopping app, users tinker and sell their own shortcut tie-dye polo shirts. If you don’t want high, COS recently released a scuba polo dress ($ 99) that you can wear with sneakers. This design has even made its way into swimwear this season, Naomi Osaka has teamed up with Frankies Bikinis as part of a collaboration and one of the pieces is – you guessed it – a bikini top in polo collar.
